My name is Kim Jennejohn. I grew up in a racing family and developed an interest in photography in the sixth grade.

While a junior in high school I got my first photo published in Gater News. After graduating from high school I met veteran race photographer Bob Hunter. Also, a key figure in the start of Gater News.

In the fall of 1981 I started college at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I was studying photography and multi-media. My dream was to be a Sports Illustrated photographer! I didn’t stay long and the next spring I began to mentor with Bob Hunter.

We would soon form J&H Photo and travel the East Coast photographing auto racing and having pictures published in various newspapers and magazines.

But that’s just part of the story! I also raced myself, for 22 years.

Bob got me started in the Ladies Pure Stock division at Perry Speedway where I would do double duty taking photos when not behind the wheel!

I went on to compete in Super Stocks, Street Stocks (paved and dirt), Sport Mod, and the NASCAR Modified division. I was the first woman to qualify for The Race of Champions at Oswego Speedway!

Bob Hunter passed away suddenly in 2003. I competed one more season in the modified and at the end of the 2004 season I sold my entire operation.

In 2004 I started getting help from former DIRT Modified driver Steve Schultz. His coaching would play an important role in future endeavors.

Partway into the 2007 season I received a call from former driver and now track owner, Dean Hoag, asking if I had any interest in driving a 4 cylinder mustang in Black Rock Speedway’s highly competitive 4 cylinder division. It sounded like fun, and it had been a long time since all I had to do was show up and drive! I scored two feature wins and ended up 8th in points. Car owner Mark Wallenbeck asked me to come back and try for the track championship in 2008, but I had won the season final event and couldn’t think of a better time to call it quits!

I had made a lot of friends at Black Rock Speedway and Dean asked me to stay on as the track photographer.

I continued to be track photographer at Black Rock until the end of 2013 when Dean Hoag sold the speedway to Tyler Siri. I saw that as an opportunity to bow out and did not accept the invitation to return in 2014.

Since then, Steve and I have been busy with starting up an Airbnb business. Steve’s nephew, Mike Schultz is very involved in I-Racing and carried our www.whisperingpinesgetaway.com logo on his I-Racing 360 sprint car!
